Bonsoir from Lausanne!

Hello everyone! I’m writing from Lausanne, Switzerland where I am teaching a three day RAC course. Geneva and Lausanne are amazing places, highly recommended if you are traveling to Europe…great food, fun sights, and a huge array of international travelers.
This is my second trip to Europe this year (the other was to Florence [...]

The following request appeared on the comp.databases.oracle.server newsgroup a few days ago:

Found: Cool Stuff in Your Shared Items

So, I now have about five or six people sharing their Google Reader shared items with me, which is good.
These feeds function a lot like Twitter for me, i.e. the items in there are sometimes interesting and tend to tell me a bit about each person. For example, Paul shares a lot of gadget stuff [...]

Fake Calls

Flashback table data prevented by a constraint

When I was reorganizing some tables I deleted some data which at the end I wanted to reuse.I was pretty confident that with the flashback technology in the Oracle database I could get my data again. So I was surprised when I got the message “ORA-01466:…

Oracle 11g RAC On Linux Using VMware Server 2…

I mentioned in a previous post I had taken the plunge and upgraded to VMware Server 2 on my laptop. Now I’ve also upgraded my main machine at home and it seems to be working fine. Probably the most complicated thing I run at home is a virtual RAC, so I wrote a new article [...]

open letter to Tony Hawks

This is the first in a series of ‘open letters’ when I send emails to people who I admire or have had a major influence on my life.

I will post my ‘open letter’ and subsequently will post the individual’s response (with their permission).
