A post on the Dizwell Forum made me realise I had never used either CLOBs or BLOBs with an external table, so I thought I would give it a go and wrote this article:

Unfortunately, it didn’t help the guy on the forum as this functionality was introduced in 10g and he was still using 9i. 🙁
