Windows NT 4

I had to install Windows NT 4 today. Don’t ask…

I remember waiting for this OS to be released. I was really excited because I had been using Windows 95 and Windows NT 4 was going to look similar… Fast forward a few years and I am totally depressed at having to install it. The installation process is a pain and expecting such an old OS to auto-detect new kit is nieve to say the least.

It’s a sad day when you find yourself wishing you were installing Windows XP. 🙂

Cheers

  1. Nice description. 🙂

Well, I have to create an exact duplicate of another server (non-Oracle), to test some stuff. It feels like I’ve taken a trip backwards in time by 10 years…

  2. “Well boy. in the time you actually “worked”!!!, not like today…. SOA my a##” 🙂

This is a quick tip. Install it on a virtual machine. You will be loosing some performance, but anyway, will be much faster anyway if you use current hardware, and since vmware (as far as I have seen) emulates well supported hardware, you won’t be hazzled by drivers and reboots. If you use vmware and snapshots, you will be able to install without regreting if you installed an erroneous service pack or if it rips your setup.

    greetings.

  3. Hi.

I’m a big fan of VMware, and if I were doing it for myself that would definitely be the way I’d do it, but this is a request for a specific server to be installed, so it’s out of my hands.

    Cheers
