What they bill and what they get from insurance companies are usually two very different amounts. In the US, the majority of personal bankruptcies stem from medical expenses, and the actuaries factor in the likely discounting in collections when setting rates. The actuarial tables get it wrong in areas where many poor people must get treated without providers being reimbursed. This has resulted in many hospitals being closed in areas where they are needed most. Messed up doesn't begin to describe it.

...or it goes to show how expensive health care is in the US. In Canada, we have basic health as a minimum (much like the UK) and each employer tends to have extended health benefits coverage for their employees.

One thousand quid is not cheap (about US$2,000)! Ouch!

Hi.

I thought it was a bit pricey, but I was checked by a couple of doctors, they did a full blood work and I took up a cell in the ER for a couple of hours. Just like paying rent really... :)

Cheers

Some muscle relaxants and the advice to drink lots of water, a grand? Seems a bit steep. Still, like the MasterCard ads say, not having your legs amputated for DVP, priceless.
