If you liked Dune try some other Frank Herbert. My favorites are Soul Catcher, The White Plague, The Dosadi Experiment and Under Pressure. Destination: Void was also good, but the rest of that series went downhill fast.

Tim

I read them all as a teenager. From my recollection, Dune was brilliant and I enjoyed all the rest of the original 6 apart from one but I can't remember which one, God Emperor I think. The later ones don't have the same pace and plot twists as the first but go for the epic sweep and grand concept approach to SF.

I picked up one of the follow ups in a charity shop. Half way through the first chapter I wish I'd left it where it was.

Completely agree Tim. I bought the whole original series but only got around to reading the first one so far. The cash in books after Frank Herbert's death stand out to me like something brown and stinky in the street. You know it's going to be shit if you step in it!

The original movie is something like 5 hours long. I've waited to hear if the entire movie as shot would ever be released as it misses quite a few scenes that would make a lot more sense of the movie.
On that subject, various channels are playing "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" with scenes cut out from the rest of the movie. As I've seen this many times it was a bit disconcerting to see the uncut scenes for the first time and wondering how I missed them the previous times. I should add I had no idea I was watching the film with the scenes restored.
