Oracle VmWare

Tim - We are using Red Hat linux Operating system. We need to convert some of our DEV box to Oracle Vmware.

I need to draft a high level plan for this.

Can you please list any apporach if you have? What is the best way to convert the current server into Oracle Vmware?

I know, this is very general question.. Please throw some lights.

Hi.

What I would do for each database is:

- Create a VM.
- Install the OS on the VM.
- Install Oracle on top if the host in the VM.
- Create a database using DBCA with the same name/sid.

When you want to do the switch:

- Shut down both databases (original and VM one).
- Delete the controlfiles, datafiles, tempfiles, redo logs etc. from the VM.
- Copy the files from the original machine to the VM.
- Start the DB on the VM.
- If the positions of the files have changed (directory paths not the same) rename them. (http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/mis ... -files.php)

That's about it for a quick outline.

Are you talking about oracle vmware? or regular vmware? MY company wanted to go for Oracle Vmware.

Just checking and make sure, your input applies to oracle Vmware.

Hi.

There is no such product as "Oracle VMware". VMware is a company that does virtualization. Oracle have two virtualization products. One is called OracleVM. The other is called Oracle VirtualBox.

Regardless of what you use, I would do the same thing in this case.
