Dataguard Rehearsal

Postby sivakumarocp » Mon Nov 18, 2013 1:41 pm

Hi Tim,

we are doing DR rehearsal on every DB which has Dataguard setup using Flashback method.
I would like to know is there any other way to do this method in a easier way.

Hi.

It depends what you want to test. A switchover tests the standby is working without doing something as drastic as a failover, but it is not a true test of failover.

Cheers

Hi Tim & Siva,
Why can't you use Snapshot Standby Database.. it is 11g feature for Dataguard. Active dataguard also is there... for read only purpose(Reporting Purpose)..

Hi.

Snapshot Standby actually uses Flashback Database, which he said he did not want to use. :)

Active DataGuard is licensed separately, so you can only use it if you have paid the extra cash. :)

Hi,
if you don't want to use flashback. then possible ways.. take backup of standby database including controlfile.. then switch over.. once work done.. then restore entire files from backup and start standby else create standby using rman again.

instead of create standby using rman.. u can restore from same server.. to reduce transfer time.

Hi.

But none of those are easier than using flashback. The original post was, "...is there any other way to do this method in a easier way". I don't believe any way is easier than using flashback, so the answer remains, "No".

Cheers
