Import from multiple files

Hello Tim,

I have export dump that spans across multiple files (about 20)

Is there a way to import all these dump files using a single "imp" command ?
If yes, what to specify in the "file" parameter of "imp" command ?

Or do I need to execute 20 "imp" commands ?

Got from OTN docs that we can use -

imp scott/tiger IGNORE=y FILE = dat1.dmp, dat2.dmp, dat3.dmp FILESIZE=2048

BTW, which is the recommeded way ?

Secondly, please give some tips to import this huge data

I know few like -
compile=n, index=n (and then creating index from the index file created using indexfile) etc

But your kind advice will be of great help

Hi.

You seem to have it pretty well covered.

You need to import them all in one go if they were generated from a single export. If speed is your number 1 issue then I would avoid having indexes and foreign keys on any preexisting tables that are being imported into. If non of the tables exist the it doesn't matter as the tables are created, loaded then the indexes are built by the import. Only at the end of the import are the constraints enabled, so the whole process can't really get much faster by doing it manually.

Hi.

Each file is only a portion of the whole export and I don't believe they are self contained, such that you may have half of a table in one file and half in another etc. The file split is based on the size you specified on the export, not on a convenient break point.
