running root.sh on second node failed.

Let me first thanks you for this forums and the articles.

I am following the below link article to install oracle rac , first the grid on stage to run the two scripts.

the root.sh was running successfully on the first node , but on the second node it is failed always, below the result.plz help me to solve it.

Hi.

I notice you are doing the installation on OL6, so my first question would be, are you using the 11.2.0.3 download from MOS? This installation does not work if you are using the 11.2.0.1 download from OTN. You must use 11.2.0.3.

If you are using the correct version of the software, I would then suggest working through this article to try and diagnose your issue:

Thanks for your prompt reply, actully I am using 11.2.0.3 and downloaded from MOS. below is the articles that I following to install the Rac.

Questions:

1) How much memory have you allocated to each VM and what is the total physical memory on your system.
2) Have you run the cluvfy utility against your setup to check what it says?

1) for each node 2 GB.
2) i run the mentioned script, all are passed except some packages, I check it one by one and found that the yum install the updated and latest packages . all other checking are passed successfully.

Hi.

The minimum requirement is about 4G per VM. I mention this in my article. You are attempting the install with too little memory.

If you can't allocate more memory you should look at RAC Attack. Jeremy has a script that releases memory from the clusterware. That can help you complete the installation with less memory.

So the above error because of memory ? I belive the system will be slow and will use swap if needed not failed since no message on the root for the memory size.. appretiate if you can clearfiy this point to me. and where I can find the script that releases memory?

Hi.

RAC is particularly sensitive when run on machine with limited resources. When you have too little memory, the VM swaps like crazy, slowing it down, which causes CRS to freak. The installation is very unreliable on VMs with too little memory, hence my point and my recommendation in the article.

Jeremy has a script mentioned somewhere there to release memory from CRS. I've never used it, so please don't ask me about that bit.

Hi.

Remember, you can only do this if your PC has enough physical memory to support that.
