ACFS - for Oracle DB Homes

Postby fogun » Sat May 18, 2013 7:21 pm

Hi Tim,

I wonder if you can help. I have a couple of scenarios here and a bit confused.

I have 2 RedHat environments here 1) Redhat 5.9 and Redhat 6.3. Both have RAC cluster 11.2.0.3 /Grid/ASM. ( 2-node clusters)

We are planning to use ACFS to host a shared Oracle home on Redhat6.

On initial testing on RedHat 5

We configured ACFS, all was working fine, until we had to reboot the server. Every time the server is rebooted it would not mount the volume groups for ASM. The only workaround is to run the command "acfsroot install" command. Once we had that command set-up in /etc/init.d/acfsload, on server reboot everything is working fine. Note that the acfsload script was initially for loading the ASM drivers, but I discovered that these were loaded automatically on server reboot anyway. (this was checked and confirmed by issuing an lsmod|grep oracle.

On the other hand, when I proceeded to set up ACFS on Redhat 6 environment, the "acfsroot install" was not required, but we had to use "acfsload start -s".

Can you shed some light on the functionality of using "acfsroot install" and "acfsload start -s".

I cannot seem to understand why I have to use one in the 5.9 environment and the other in the 6.3 environment.

Hi.

I'm not really sure about this. I did find this reference, but I'm not sure how relevant it is:

http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/rea ... #sthref451

I think you should raise this with Oracle Support.

Note. ACFS is now a separately licensed product if you use it for *anything* except an ORACLE_HOME and datafiles. That means any other type of shared files, like scripts, means you are meant to pay a separate license. Since this licensing change, I've pretty much lost interest in this feature.

Cheers

Thanks Tim for the info.

I have a ticket with them "Awaiging Internal" response for the past week. I cannot seem to find the information where it states if ACFS is to be used other than the ORACLE_HOME, then we have to purchase a license. I don't suppose you have a link or reference to it? Otherwise, I will raise an SR to get it out from them.

Hi,

I have found the information about licensing http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/lic ... ptions.htm . As we are not using Advance features of this, I think we are covered.

Hi.

Just be careful you are not accidentally using some of those features! :)
