Recreate ASM disks after grid install failure

Postby d_chew » Wed Jul 31, 2013 2:46 pm

I referred to the guide "http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/rac/clean-up-a-failed-grid-infrastructure-installation.php"

I was attempting to recreate the ASM disks after failed grid installation.

Everything went fine, until this step
# /etc/init.d/oracleasm deletedisk DATA /dev/sdb1 [Failed]
# /etc/init.d/oracleasm createdisk DATA /dev/sdb1 [Failed]

I used "DATA" as my asm disk group in the GUI installation, following closely to the instructions given in the URL.

I created the ASM disks using the guide "http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/12c/oracle-db-12cr1-rac-installation-on-oracle-linux-6-using-virtualbox.php#create_shared_disks"

Can I know what went wrong?

Hi.

Well, it looks like the disks were never marked as ASM disks. If that is the case, then they should be fine to reuse.

The point of cleaning down the disks is to make sure they are not already marked as ASM disks, so they will be seen as candidate disks for the new installation. If they were never marked, they should be seen as candidate disks anyway.

Cheers

Tim,

Unfortunately, in the grid installation GUI, it showed up as "Member". This is correct as I did install once successfully. However, due to some issues, I need to reinstall the grid and have removed the grid software and start all over.

The /usr/sbin/oracleasm createdisk DATA & deletedisk worked only when I use ASMlib to present the disks. If I use Udev, apparently I can't remove them using the command "oracleasm".

Also, selinux need to be set to disabled prior able to "oracleasm createdisk" successfully.

vi /etc/sysconfig/selinux
SELINUX=disabled

Hi.

All my installation guides suggest disabling, or setting SELinux to permissive.

Remember, after setting "SELINUX=permissive" you need to reboot, or run the following command from the command line.

Code: Select all
# setenforce Permissive
