Oracle9i PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate

I have been using oracle as a developer for 6 years now and was looking to go through the certification process for the PL/SQL developer. My questions are 1. Is it worth it to go this course? Will it ever get to be a OCP Developer?. I really have no intention of becoming a dba or wanting to develop forms or reports since I mostly have been using VB, and Java. I know I will learn alot in the process of taking the exams though. Just wanted to get some opinions. Thanks

Hi.

I don't think there will ever be a OCP in PL/SQL development. Oracle see the Certified Associate as a stepping stone to the OCP Developer. Unfortunately for people like us who have little interest in Forms and Reports there is no natural progression from OCA in development.

I think the value of OCA/OCP is in what you get out of it, not necessarily what employers think. If you think you will learn something by doing this exam then go for it. I wouldn't suggest the ILT course as you probably know enough after six years to prepare for the exam by yourself.

I think I will learn a bunch by going through it. My other question is once you have that certification how often do you need to take tests to keep it up to date?

Hi.

Once you are certified that's it for that version. You only need to take nore tests if you wish to certify in a new version. If you get a full OCP this usually involves a single upgrade exam.
