For which i Certification should i go?

Hey tim i'm from india, iwant to do oracle certification, but i'm little confused, help me. In my country, oracle 9i is using beacuse technology here is not upgraded till yet. So plz sggest me whether i go for 9i or 11g?

that's not answer to my ques.in my country 11g hasnt arrived till yet.so if i go for 11g,it'll b nt useful 4 me until it arrives in my country.

Did you actually read my post?

I wrote, "Certify in the version you are going to use."

There is no point certifying in a version you are not going to use. If you think you will be using 9i for a while, then certify in 9i. If everyone is currently moving to 10g, then certify in 10g.

Are you really sure about this comment ? Who has told you this ? I know about hundred customers on 10g and about 5 over 11g too.

In my opinion, if somebody wants to do a good career in Oracle, he should firstly give 9i certification. As sir Hans Forbrich said in one of certification topics in OTN - I forgot what Mr. Hans said exactly (I'll try to find out his post), but the main sense was that he gives superiority to person who is 9iOCP and not 10gOCP, than who's 10g OCP and not 9i OCP

Firstly, I was thinking that I should have 10gOCP. 9i now has been retired, even though its using by many companies. Then, by investigating a little (and being 10g OCP), I've found out that being 9i OCP is a very good option, is superiority and will impact to career.
Thus, I started prepare to 9i exams and have passed 3 of them

I think that the main difference between 9i OCP and 10g OCP is in Performance Tuning. There's additional exam in Performance Tuning in 9i, but in 10g all performance tuning actions are automated by using Enterprise Manager

Hi.

There are still a lot of companies out there running Oracle 9i, so I think it's good to do the certification, and I agree that there is more content in the 9i exam. The newer certification concentrate more on using Enterprise Manager and less on doing things "by hand".

That said, if you are never going to work wit 9i, then there seems little point certifying against it. I'm an OCP 7.3, but it's been som many years since I used Oracle 7 I would probably struggle to DBA on it now.

You should certify on the versions of the database that you are, or are likely, to use.

Just my opinion.

thanx to al for your help..i have started working on 9i...as the institutes who are preparing for 11g are askin many bucks for that, which is not possible for me now. i also checked that many companies are still working on 9i. if i need any kind of help, i'l get back here..and find ood thign that many new people are answering than the admin...
