Job outlook

I intend to complete an Oracle certification for DBA, but i am wondering if job outlook are still good for this type of work ....Thanks a bunch for your help !

Hi.

Most people still say that DBA work is hard to get without experience, but IT spending is starting to increase again, so it should not be long before the job market picks up again. I do not think it will ever bee as good as it was 5 years ago, but it should improve.

The only thing you can do is keep trying and stay flexible.

Would anybody know what hourly rates a DBA can chrge on an average, as a consultant, considering 3 years experience ?

Hi.

These days there is no such thing as a standard rate. Last time I was looking I was offered such a diverse range of rates I stopped even trying to pin it down. I was offered one interview for a contract that payed £15/hour and I would have to live away from home. That would hardly cover my hotel bills

The best thing to do is ask a few different agents to try and get a feel for it. I never specify a rate to agencies. I tell them to pass anything to me and I'll tell them if it is unacceptable.
