Archive file generation each of different size

Hi Tim,

I have created my newly production database on oracle(11.2.0.1.0) on windows 2008 R2.I have kept redo log file size 50mb. but every archive file is creating of different sizes. for e.g. 30mb..20mb..10mb..25mb. However in other databases the size of archive file is mostly same around 45mb each.

Please suggest the cause of this different size of arc log file.

Hi.

I only know of two reasons for this:

1) You are doing a manual log switch before the file is full.
2) You are using a timeout (archive_lag_target) to switch after so many minutes, regardless of how full the file is.
