Hello Tim,
I would like to ask you some advice about how to learn SQL tuning. It has been a while since I have been reading the online oracle documentation : "Oracle® Database Performance Tuning Guide 11g Release 2 (11.2)" and I've learnt several concepts. Yet, I really believe that regarding my current beginner level, the documentation is too advanced for me. I'm totally beginner in the field of tuning and performance. I'm not DBA for now, and I work with oracle rather as a SQL-PL/SQL developer, so the priority for me at the present is to master SQL and PL/SQL tunning (joins, execution plans, etc.). Of course once I become familiar with the basics I'd be glad to go further. So what I'm looking for is a really beginner friendly and up to date book.
I did the same while I wanted to learn PL/SQL, I took Steven Feuerstein's book which seemed to me more suitable for a totally beginner. Once I became more familiar with the stuff I started reading oracle online PL/SQL documentation which was then much more useful and comprehensible thanks to the background with the Steven's book.
So I try to proceed in the same way for learning oracle tuning (most importantly starting by SQL tuning).
Could you kindly give me some guidelines, Tim? (books, tutorials, etc.)
Thanks in advance,
Kind Regards,
Dariyoosh
