Re: Streams Replication

Postby me_lucky » Thu Apr 18, 2013 5:02 am

Hi Tim,

Am trying to implement Oracle Streams Replication (Using Metalink Note 733691.1).

I have configured the steps, but in my alert log am getting the below error:

Check that the primary and standby are using a password file
and remote_login_passwordfile is set to SHARED or EXCLUSIVE,
and that the SYS password is same in the password files.
returning error ORA-16191

Both DB's are created with Same Oracle sys user password. after this disabled case sensitivity aslo, but still the error persists.
Pl help me resolving the issue.

Hi.

Log in to the OS on the first server and do:

Code: Select all
sqlplus sys@secondserver as sysdba

Does it work?

Login into the second server and do:

Code: Select all
sqlplus sys@firstserver as sysdba

Does it work?

Where firstserver and secondserver are the tnsnames.ora entries for the respective servers. :)

The error suggests that the remote_login_passwordfile parameter does not allow remote connections as "SYS AS SYSDBA" either because the parameter is not set correctly or you are using the wrong password. Remember, the password in the passwordfile may not match the one you use to connect locally, depending on how it was set up. You need to test the remote connections, as suggested above, to know if the connections are possible.

Cheers

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the immediate reply.

Yes i am able to connect to both the databases but it is asking for password to connect.

do i need to re-create password file explicitly on both the servers?

Hi.

If you are able to make remote connections to "sys as sysdba" on each server, that should be enough.

Cheers

Hi.

Yes. It is normal for you to enter a password when you make a connection manually like this.

I guess you need to take a step back and do the following:

- Turn off the case sensitive passwords functionality by setting "SEC_CASE_SENSITIVE_LOGON=FALSE" in both the primary and secondary database SPFILEs.
- Turn off the databases.
- Recreate the password file on both systems, making sure they have the same password and use the ignorecase=Y when using the orapwd utility.

You can read about some of this stuff here:

Hi.

This is a different error, which suggests the previous suggestions have moved us forward.

So now, try a tnsping of both servers, from each server. So:

1) On the primary server:

tnsping primaryserver
tnsping secondaryserver

2) On thesecondary server:

tnsping primaryserver
tnsping secondaryserver

It looks to me like your TNS configuration is incorrect. The tnspings will tell you if this is true.

Cheers

Hi Tim,

Thanks a ton. You made it finally. Its Working...
But the thing is all i have to do is log switch on source database.
dose it really require manual log switching? Or is anything to do with the ocnfiguration?
Pl clarify .

Hi.

I don't understand what you are asking. Streams does not require manual log switching.

Hi Tim,

As i said it is replication happening from source database to destination database. Butit is happening only when i manually do the log switch.

with out manual logswitch , replication is not happening on the destination database.

Thanks & Regards,
Lucky

Hi.

So you don't mean manual log switch, you mean any log switch, including automatic log switching?

Sounds like you have configured Archived-Log Downstream Capture, rather than Real-Time Downstream Capture. The first section of the MOS note you pointed to explains the difference.

Cheers
